CMS Evaluation

I can understand why people stress about making technology choices.

At the moment I am evaluating a number of open source CMS packages. I've looked at the usual suspects and am now about to get off the fence and pick one.

Each package has its own set of advantages and disadvantages - but its up to me to decide which of the advantages I really like and which disadvantages I can live with.

This is ultimately a low stress decision. If I don't like my choice I am capable of changing to another system without losing much time or putting out too much effort. But, this all got me to thinking about people in the 'real world' that have to make technology buying decisions. To them something like this must be very high stress.

If I - a tech savvy fella with all my years of experience - find the job of choosing something hard, then what about the poor schmoe that doesn't have the foggiest idea about tech? How does s/he choose? It must be a nightmare.

Good news: It is now my job to help people make these decisions. I have an oportunity to take the stress out of the process for them. All I have to do is be confident in my ability to evaluate software and be confident in the choices I make on my client's behalf.

andyway - I'm off to make my choices.
