Comment Spammers are Stupid

Submitted by andre on Wed, 2006-07-05 21:59.Etc. | Geeky | Site History

Its been about 1 year since I launched andremolnar 2.0. Obviously with this sort of site I wanted to have comments enabled and not force people to register or pass some human validation test (captcha) just so they can have their say (not that anybody actually bothers to comment on here). But, you don't also want to be swamped with comment spam.

At the time there weren't any comment spam-bots that posted to drupal based sites, but there were still comment spam sweat shops doing the work manually. So, as a precaution I installed the spam module. Every once and a while I would get notified of some spammer trying to clog my site, but no action was needed. Spam messages were quarantined.

Well, in the past few weeks it turns out that the spam bots have finally been programmed to tackle drupals comment forms. This is good news and bad news. The good news is that Drupal has enough traction in the world that someone has taken the time to write a bot to post comments to Drupal sites. The bad news of course is that someone has taken the time to write a bot to post comments to Drupal sites.

Speeling is still fun:-)

I pointed out long ago that I never speel check my blog pots... mainly because a) I'm too layzy to do it - b) I'm amused at the trafic I get from people that are equilly spelling challanged...

If you google for Sponsorship Scandle... I'm #1. Yes, I look like an uneducated sap because of it... but what the hell... Turns out about 50 other people can't spell either... If you are looking for information on the actual Sponsorship Scandal <-- there is a link for you.

Getting There

Submitted by andre on Tue, 2005-05-10 03:21.Site History

So, as you might have noticed the site is a bit different now.

I've gone ahead and converted my personal home page to be a Drupal site.

I wanted this conversion to be quick and dirty. I archived my old movable type posts (see the block on the left) - and I've gone ahead and changed the look of the site.

"Hey that looks familiar" you might be thinking. Yes - it is quite a familiar look if you have visited Can't Eat It. This is a modified version of the theme that I have called "Dan the Avenger."

I didn't want to spend a whole lot of time (yet) developing a new theme - so for the sake of speed I did a quick mod of an existing design. Original? No. Better than a standard Drupal theme? YES!

First Post on the new Andremolnar 2.0

This is the first post on Andremolnar.com 2.0.

This really is just a place holder until I get something going here.

What I need to do:
Get my base configuration set up.

Apply a different theme.
Create some blocks that link to old stuff.

Whatever.
